Simple budget-friendly nesting updates

November 2, 2017

This past week I entered my third trimester and holy cow, I’m on nesting overdrive – internally anyway! As we wait for our house to sell, there really isn’t any sense (or budget with aย new baby coming) to buy all new things when the feeling moves. I have plans for our next house, oh I have plans! But for now, $20 well spent here and there makes me smile ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  I thought I would share with you a few things I have moved around, and bought, to nest at home as we move into winter and awaiting our second daughter’s arrival.

First up? The living room. Oh this room. It’s also the playroom with rather large furniture, so we make do, and I feel we’ve done well with what we have! But with our grey walls, copious amounts of wood accents, and few windows, I felt like we needed more colour!

I know I want navy blue in our future livingroom so I kept that in mind. Our rug from IKEA has navy, gold, black and cream in it, so I decided to bring more mustard and black into the livingroom. We already had this pillow cover, so adding in different patterns made sense. I still love our gallery wall, and have fought the urge to change it up – in the interest of more nail holes and our growing daughter who can now touch the bottom ones! But with four new pillow covers and another fur rug (it’s the same one we have in her reading corner in her room that she loves, you can read about it here), I feel like our livingroom got a pick-me-up! Elizabeth loves having another soft rug to sit on in this room ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also while at IKEA, I picked up this cutie table and chairs set for $30! You can’t beat that, even at a used price! She loved it right away. But after a day I thought, “Hmmm, I wonder if I could make this more girly and cute?” Enter Michaels, modge podge and some scrapbooking paper! My only concern was she would try and pick it off! She tried once, and then went on enjoying it! I feel like it adds a cute girly touch! What do you think?

The other thing I updated this week was our dining buffet. I think with the more kids things we add at home, the more simplicity I want in decor. This spot has been tricky for me from day one, and I’ve changed it up here and there. But again, in the interest of not buying all new decor for a place we’re hoping to leave soon, I came up with a $5 solution ๐Ÿ˜‰ I bought a grapevine wreath at Michaels and glued on some moss I already had at home. I had the burlap and Troy helped me hang it on this heavy mirror he built from the wood from our wedding arch! Take a look… it works. And later this month I’ll be adding Christmas anyway! ๐Ÿ˜‰

There you have it. Simple updates, with very little money actually spent, can make a big difference and help you enjoy home life just a wee bit more! ๐Ÿ˜‰
